What's it all about...

What?

Hingham Youth Cafe operates a monthly provision for young people aged 11-16 offering a safe, inspiring and welcoming space for young people to meet up and socialise. Young people can also get involved in special projects, sports, creative and leisure activities. Hingham Youth Cafe offers young people access to information and guidance on a number of issues relevant to their lives and experiences, such as physical/mental health and wellbeing.

Hingham Youth Cafe is run by volunteers from the local community, led by a volunteer coordinator. It is a member of ‘Momentum, Norfolk’, and is working towards ‘Ambition Quality’ a national kitemark to recognise good quality, safe youth provision.

Why?

Young people benefit from having a place to go to socialise, be themselves and get involved in projects and groups - and it may be that young people TODAY need some extra support as sometimes school, social media, friendships/family and even the wider political landscape create pressures and risks which need supporting by people who understand about these things, i.e. Youth Workers.

Hingham has a long and rich history of Youth Work, having provided a youth club for the young people of Hingham and the surrounding areas since at least the early 1960s. The aim was always to provide young people with interesting things to do and somewhere to socialise with friends, and Hingham Youth Cafe, as the modern version of this, continues with this ethos in mind.
